Morris Reese, Jr.
Of
San Angelo, Texas
A native of South Texas, Morris Reese is a retired attorney and now a full time artist, living in San Angelo, Texas.
He started painting in oil about 10 years ago with help and encouragement from Hugh Campbell and other noted local western artists. As he progressed, his painting interest moved toward landscapes, and he has focused in this genre, principally in the West Texas and Big Bend areas. Morris has been very fortunate in having taken workshops from some of the premier landscape plein air painters in the country, T. Allen Lawson of Maine, Matt Smith of Arizona, and Skip Whitcomb of Ft. Collins, Colorado, to name a few. These opportunities have been an inspiration to him and have accelerated his learning curve as he continues to take workshops from these artists. In addition, access to the various workshops has offered him the great opportunity to visit and become a part of the larger artist community in all areas of the country.
“The ability to paint outdoors, surrounded by the landscape and feeling the full impact of light on your subject matter, allows the artist to see color and value in a way that photographs cannot duplicate. It also allows me to thoroughly be in the moment with the subject; an experience worth the effort in its own right.” “I am now trying to take my plein air sketches and the knowledge obtained from being outside into the studio to work on larger works.”
Morris is a signature member of the American Plains Artists, a member of Oil Painters of America, the Outdoor Painters Society and the Austin Plein Air Society.
Morris is married to the lovely Anne and has two wonderful daughters, Nickie and Rachel. He also is the proud grandfather of three young boys, Reese James Trulove, Zac O’Byrne Haine and Samuel Morris Tweedy Haine and one beautiful granddaughter, Reagan Elizabeth Trulove.
